What Causes an Enlarged Prostate?
Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), more commonly referred to as enlarged prostate, is cause by an increased number of cells in the gland. However, the precise reason for this phenomenon is unknown.
Several variables could be involved, including androgens (male hormones), estrogens, growth factors and other cell signaling pathways. Genetics may also play a role.
