Signs of an Enlarged Prostate
For most men, frequent nightly bathroom runs are typically the first indicator of an enlarged prostate. An enlarged prostate puts pressure on the urethra, causing the bladder to contract more forcefully to push urine out of the body. As a result, the bladder never fully empties.
Eventually, the bladder can become overly sensitive and begin contracting even when only a small amount of urine is present. This causes the need to urinate frequently.
The most problem common issue in men over 50 is an enlarged prostate. By 60, more than one-half of men suffer from the condition and that number jumps to 90% in men 85 or older.
Other symptoms of an enlarged prostate include:
- Difficulty starting urination
- Frequent urination
- A weak urinary stream
- A feeling of incomplete banner emptying
- Urgency to urinate
- Getting up multiple times at night to urinate
- Straining to urinate
- Continued dribbling of urine
- Returning to urinate again just minutes after finishing
